About Joe Nord

I’ve been immersed in the world of wrestling for almost 30 years, exploring facets of the sport as both a coach and an athlete. My experience has shown me that all of our skills, actions, talents and abilities have their roots firmly established in our minds. I’ve learned that when our hearts and minds are right, our actions will be too.

All of our skills, actions, talents and abilities have their roots firmly established in our minds.

My challenging and passionate experience as an athlete and coach took a firm grip on me and pulled me into the study of psychology. While studying psychology has greatly enriched my understanding of wrestling and coaching, wrestling has taught me just as much about psychology. I consider my nearly 30 years in wrestling to be my first—and most influential—masters class in psychology, which continues to compliment the dual master’s degrees I now hold in psychology from Columbia University.

Wrestling was my first—and most influential—masters class in psychology.

Starting from an early age, my wrestling journey spanned all levels, from grade school to the International Senior Level. As a college athlete, I was part of the 2007 DI NCAA Championship Team at the University of Minnesota, where I spent five years competing and two years coaching under the legendary J Robinson.

Beginning in college and extending for several years after, I built my coaching foundation through the leadership position I held at J Robinson Intensive Camps—known for their life-changing impact on young people and for their notoriously grueling training environment. Each summer, I led a group of counselors to coach, train, and motivate over a thousand high school wrestlers.

After over more than coaching Division I wrestling and two decades as an athlete, I’ve fully transitioned to my role as a therapist in New York City and to bringing the Warrior Steps program to athletes, coaches and parents. Today, I focus on helping individuals, coaches, and parents cultivate the mindsets, habits, beliefs, cultures, and families they can be proud of.
